Brothers

4 year old Bailey was such a great little boy, after a couple of weeks of clients with the ‘terrible twos’ it was such a pleasure to have a little boy who listened, didn’t have tantrums and understood that his newborn brother had to be treated with care!

Lovely photo shoot with a newborn who was wide awake but as calm as could be, and a big brother who worked with me beautifully to get some photos that their parents will treasure forever.

Footy Baby!

No prizes for guessing that this baby has a father that loves Australian Footy!

I have a huge printed version of this hanging in my studio, and as soon as my new clients see it dad gets back in the car and goes home to collect his own footy ball to replicate this photo! I’m also surprised how many dads carry a footy ball around in their car anyway, and can just go and get it out of the car! I would keep one myself but I have learned that the make, and wording on the footy is very important according to what team you support, the things you learn doing newborn baby photography!

Bosco the boxer dog

I have to admit that I have a bit of a weakness for dogs with wrinkles! Boxers, pugs, bull mastiffs and Shar Pei’s … anytime I hear that’s the type of dog that a client is bringing I can’t wait to meet them and see those oh-so-expressive faces.

Bosco was no exception, plus he loved squeaky toys, so one squeak and the eyebrows went up and all the forehead wrinkles deepened, love it!

Chinese families

Adelaide Baby Photos
Adelaide Baby Photos

Although I’m not Chinese myself, I have photographed so many babies from families of Chinese descent that I now have quite an understanding of the culture and traditions that surround the birth of a new baby into the family, even when it is a young Chinese couple living in Australia.

As a result I now offer a Chinese Package to facilitate the desire to have newborn photos but the difficulties of how to do that with the 30 day confinement period. For Chinese families I do a pregnancy photo shoot at my studio around the 34 week mark, then when the new baby is born I do a newborn photo shoot at their home in the first 2 weeks, and then another studio photo shoot on the 100th day. I love doing it as I get to have quite a relationship with the parents, and invariably they come back at 8 months and at 1 year so I get to see the baby grow up too.

German Shepherd, Colllie X

Hunter was the winner of a competition held by my local vet. People were asked to upload a photo of their pet onto the vets Facebook page and then the pet with the most “likes” won a photo shoot with me!

Well handsome boy Hunter won the competition and came for his photo shoot. He’s a German Shepherd x Collie with the looks of a German Shepherd and the mind of a Collie! He was sheep dog trained as a puppy and so he’s really good with commands and even ‘talks’ when asked to!

This photo shoot was done and dusted in no time at all, Hunter posed beautifully and was so good. Now his humans have the hard task of deciding which of his gorgeous photos to print!

Little Miss Newborn Perfect!

Wow, this newborn baby looks like she made a visit to the beauty salon to have her eyebrows and lashes touched up, but at only 16 days old it’s all perfectly natural and perfectly perfect! And she was such an easy baby to photograph too, no fussing no crying just little miss perfect!

My Mornings!

I’m dog sitting for 2 friends at the moment, so my doggy household is now 4 dogs. All the dogs know each other as we human friends all belong to the same running club and take our dogs for a run too so they all get along great.

This is the scene first thing in the morning while I’m making my morning coffee and they are very patiently waiting for their breakfast, I just love them!

Great Danes and Great Dane puppy

Oh my goodness, the bigger of the two Great Danes is only 5 1/2 months old, the small one is only a few weeks but one day she will be that big. And one day soon they will both be bigger altogether! Hopefully their humans have a big house!

Before and After

Adelaide Baby Photos by Janet Coelho
Adelaide Baby Photos by Janet Coelho

I love doing these before and after photos, every time someone books a pregnancy photo shoot I’m always hoping that they will be keen to do something like this. It takes a bit of planning and finding out what style is most appealing to the mum to be, and then having the patience in the middle of a newborn baby shoot to get it all together. But what a fantastic keepsake to remember the whole experience of that anticipation of a new baby followed by the intense love for a newborn baby.

Bet that got your attention!

Zac is an elderly gentleman and a real sweetie. His companion is a small “white fuffy” dog who keeps him on his toes and is probably keeping him  young. He has been with his rather lovely human all his life which is 12 years, and hopefully has quite a few more to go because they both love each other dearly.

Newborn babies are the best!

Only 13 days young this newborn arrived at my studio with parents and all grandparents in tow, quite a crowd and a lot of love in the room, she  is totally adored by everyone, and with good reason … what a gentle and contented baby she is, she would make even the hardest heart melt.

Nova, Great Dane puppy

Hard to imagine that this little bundle of wrinkles, cuteness and velvet fur will one day be big enough to need a single size human bed to sleep on! But that’s Great Danes for you, her humans are totally enjoying this cuddly, lapdog size … because it won’t last long!

Two year olds and newborn babies

I’m always happy when my clients call me up to say they have had another baby and want to come back to do photos with the new baby. But I must admit that my heart sinks a little when they ask if they bring baby number one along as well … who is now 2 years old. You know what they say about the “terrible twos’! There’s a good reason for it!

Of course all parents want to get beautiful photos of their children together, but working with 2 year olds is really hard. And when you add a new born baby and all the safety issues that go with it, well it just gets harder. But how can I say no? It’s what every parent wants, so I just cross my fingers and hope for the best. And when it goes right, it goes really right!!! We worked hard to get this shot, but it was so worth it!

Australian Border Collies

Australian Border Collies come in a variety of colours, these 3 are all collies ranging from elderly to middle aged to puppy. They all live together and happily their human is a fantastic dog trainer, so photographing them is a breeze! Lovely, happy and calm dogs they are incredibly intelligent and love to please, and I’m always pleased when I get the annual phone call to say it’s time to update their photos as I know the photo shoot will be a lot of fun.

The cat that thinks it’s a dog

Adelaide Pet PhotosMortlock is a very chilled out cat, every day he goes for a walk with his humans, and for his photo shoot he walked here on a collar and lead!

Absolutely divine personality (or is that catonality?), so  relaxed and sure knew how to strike a pose, and when he’d had enough he curled up on my dogs bed and had a snooze!

Happy 10th Birthday Huny!

Adelaide Pet Photos

This beautiful Golden Retriever celebrated her 10th birthday with a photo shoot to mark the auspicious occasion! She’s such a gentle soul, and a very patient one too as she lives with a little fluffy white bundle of energy who jumps all over her, chases her and generally wants to play all day!

My how you’ve grown!

Adelaide Baby PhotosI first photographed this little guy when he was still a baby bump and not even born! Then I did newborn photos of him when he was about 9 days old, and now he’s back this time 8 months old and very pleased with himself that he can sit up unaided.Adelaide Baby Photos

It’s always a pleasure when my clients come back and I get to photograph the growth stages of their babies, I love to see how they’ve grown and changed over the year, and they are such lovely milestones to capture and treasure the pictures forever.

I can’t wait for his first birthday when we can add the last photo to this timeline picture.

Glamour, Schnauzers and Cats!

Adelaide Pet Photos

Well this photo shoot took quite a bit of preparation!

Adelaide Pet PhotosFirst of all I needed a dress, but I didn’t want to spend a small fortune on a dress that would never be used again (not having much use for Princess dresses in my life!). So I decide to make one, a very make-shift one! So I dusted off my old sewing machine and got going.

Of course my dogs had to be right next to me all the time, and Molly being the princess that she is, decided that tulle made a great bed for a little doggy!

Adelaide Pet Photos

Finally it was all made and ready for the arrival of my 3 models. We had so much fun doing this shoot, the schnauzer is only 3 months old and the most delightful puppy ever. The cat, well he looks grumpy but that’s just his markings as he’s actually a very laid back, sweet  natured cat (who puts up with daily torment from the puppy!).

Baby Stuff!

P22Well as I haven’t blogged any baby shoots for eons, I thought I’d better do one pronto!

And I’ll start with a fun one, as Adelaide Baby Photos I photograph babies from while they are still a baby bump, when they are newborn, when they can sit up by themselves … usually around 6-8 months and again for their first birthday.

The cake smash photo shoot is a huge hit, the babies have a great time actually being encouraged to play with their food for change! Fun for me  and fun for the parents, and usually all over in about 15 minutes.

This little guy was a bit suspicious of his cake at first, but after he’s had a taste of it he was totally into it!

Blogging 2015

Well 2014 didn’t see too much of me on my blog, so my new years resolution (even tho I don’t believe in them!) is to try to keep up to date with my blogs!

So to start of the new year I thought I’d start with a really lovely heart warming story about a client I had in early December, Tyson. Tyson is a Bull Mastiff and very much loved by his human, Matt and the extended family. Matt came to me in a bit of a state as Tyson had been diagnosed with heart failure and been given 2 weeks to live.

He had lost 19kgs in just a couple of weeks and that had brought his weight down to a mere 84kgs! But like all the Bull Mastiffs I’ve met they truly are gentle giants. Very intimidating to look at but marshmallows on the inside!

Anyway we did the photo shoot and I asked Matt to let me know how Tyson went. To everyones amazement Tyson lived to see Christmas, and has put on weight. He’s on hugely expensive medication but fortunately the pet insurance is paying for that, and he is going great as I write this at the end of January. To celebrate we did a second photo shoot when Tyson came in with his 2 companions … pugs! Talk about a ridiculous size difference, and don’t try to count the wrinkles between them!

Labradors and glamour!

Labrador pet photo by Adelaide Pet Photos.

I was a little bit nervous about doing this photo shoot as one of the Labradors had lost a front leg to cancer, and I wondered about how he would manage with his photo shoot. I needn’t have worried, he was amazingly mobile and didn’t seem bothered in the slightest about being 3 legged, what a sweetheart.

As you can see their human is a bit stunning to say the least, and we joked that we had 3 gorgeous blondes in the studio that morning. I’m sure that they create quite a stir at the doggy park, between the glamour, the 3 blondes and the 3 legs they are certainly eye-catching!!

I don’t usually go to people’s homes to do portrait photography but this time I made an exception as I had planned to go up into the Adelaide Hills on a hunt for some more newborn props for photo shoots and thought I’d combine the two.

I had a lovely morning with this gorgeous family. First of all their home is so fabulous I wanted to move in, then the parents were just the loveliest relaxed people, and don’t talk about Hermoine who was one of the most contented babies I’ve ever met! She made my job easy! And then the fur babies came to see what was going on, as far as I’m concerned this photograph of the parents, newborn baby and a dog is just the perfect family photo!

Schnauzers, Ava, Rommel & Sabrine.

Pet Portrait Photography or Schnauzers
Pet Portrait Photography or Schnauzer

Every year I am one of the organisers of the Dogs Day Out in Mawson Lakes, it’s a fun and free community event in the suburb I live in, Mawson Lakes. We have heaps of doggy related stalls, displays, performances, advice, dog adoption and competitions. For dog lovers it’s heaven!

Anyway I run the Most Photogenic Dog Competition. I set up my mobile studio and take pawtraits all day long. It’s amazing how good the dogs are, considering that there are hundreds of dogs there, lots of noise, all sorts of comings and goings and yet they are so good at having their photos taken. I just love dogs!

Last year Ava a gorgeous Schnauzer who didn’t have the customary Schnauzer haircut just  won us all over. She sat and gazed into my camera lens, and I swear she smiled! Her prize was a professional photo shoot in my studio, and when her human told me there were 2  more at home, I decided to extend the prize to them too. Lovely dogs, each with their own distinct personality (or is that doganilty?). Ave the quite reserved one, Rommel the gentleman and Sabrine the playful one. Lovely shoot to do!

5 Border Collies!

Border Collies photograph by Adelaide Pet Photos

This was such a fun photo shoot to do. It was started off as a gift certificate that was bought as a Christmas present, one of the border collies is a bit of an old boy at 11 years old, and so it was to get some really lovely photos of him. But when I discovered that there were five of them and they all do agility training together, I thought how fabulous it would be to get a  portrait of all of them together!

So the wagon pulled up in front of my studio and was just a sea of wagging tails! I must admit at that moment I wondered if I had totally lost my mind!!! But what beautifully behaved dogs they are. A real credit to their humans who have spent a lot of time not just teaching them fun stuff  like the agility training, but perfect manners too.

We had a fabulous morning, my idea of heaven … photographing beautiful, happy dogs!

My huge blog catch-up!

Well it’s been a crazy year and my blog is now very out of date, so I’m going to do a huge catch-up and load a whole load of stuff in one go. Well that’s the plan anyway, but I’m waiting on a client to arrive for a photo shoot, so whether it happens today or not is another matter!

I’m absolutely thrilled that my newborn baby photography has taken off with a bang. I never expected that I would be so busy so soon after starting up the business, but it’s been crazy! And one of the reasons I haven’t blogged in eons.

I completed my Cert IV in Photoimaging and got a distinction in every subject, which was rather satisfying to know that I had been doing the right thing all along! It’s one thing to be passionate about photography, and to please clients but it’s a personal challenge to actually do assignments, get assessed and put a certificate on the wall for all to see!

Having juggled my business and a full-time course for a year, I was rewarded by being accepted and fully accredited by the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers, another personal milestone, and another certificate for the wall!!

Life has been a chaotic but fun balancing act of photo shoots, editing, helping to organise and run a photography competition and cocktail night, and a Dogs Day Out event in the community I live in. Add that to another fabulous holiday in Africa, this time Kruger and Mala Mala in South Africa, taking photos of the most incredible wildlife, well it’s been one hell of a ride!!

Murphy the Fox Terrier

Murphy the Fox Terrier started off life as a show dog. But he grew a little bit too tall, I bet he’s glad about that because he leads a totally charmed life now, where all he has to do is have FUN!

And boy does he have a lot of energy for fun. I think I spent more time on the floor under the table playing with him and his squeaky toy, than I did behind the lens!

Gorgeous young man, and despite his best efforts, I got some lovely photos of him!

Beyond cute!

As gorgeous as Zoe is, when it comes to being cute there is none cuter than her daughter Ebony Rose. Today though Ebony was just not into having photos taken, while her mummy was the perfect model she just wanted to play with “ooma” out in the garden … much more fun than having your photo taken! I did manage to snatch about 5 minutes in the studio with her before she was off again! Almost 2 years old, and beyond cute!

The Gorgeous Zoe!

I have to say a huge thanks to Zoe for helping me out by being such a willing model. Nothing was too much trouble … we did some natural light shots, then some outside with the speedlight and umbrella. How about some studio shots with the white backdrop? No problem. Now how about with the black backdrop, no problem! Fantastic, I got to play with all my toys and Zoe just smiled, changed clothes, and posed for me. And I think you’ll agree, we got some great results. Thanks a mil Zoe!

Jesse the Miniature Shetland Collie

Another doggy photo shoot for a birthday present! This time a 21st birthday for Melissa and the gift was organised as a surprise from her lovely partner Thomas. Jesse the miniature shetland collie had broken her foot as a puppy and had hobbled aroundever since, she’s now 10 years old and a lovely gentle dog.
